village-meuniers-route-vins-vignThe « Wine Route Mâcon-Beaujolais» leads in Saône-et-Loire; it is marked by signs « Follow the cluster. » This is where the wines are from Macon, the Pouilly, Saint-Veran, Passetoutgrain, Viré-Clessé (many are white) … Reaching the Rhône, one arrives on the territory of Beaujolais (St Amour, Julienas Chénas, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Côte de Brouilly, Brouilly), sometimes associated with divine Burgundy beverages, sometimes considered separately.

The family of Burgundy wines extends its territory between Auxerre and Macon. Its vineyards cover in close to 29 500 hectares and have 101 registered designations of origin. Grape varieties that are primarily Black Pinot, Chardonnay, Gamay, Aligoté, it draws red, white and rosé (claret). These are monks in the Middle Ages, began to organize the production of wine, creating « closed » (properties) and « climate » (specific production areas) around their abbeys; the best known are Cluny and Citeaux. Dukes of Burgundy and the kings of France were then reinforced these foundations on which today still rely heavily Burgundian wine economy which contribute four thousand domains worth putting all their characteristics (basements, microclimates …).


> The roads of Burgundy wines

The « Route des Grands Crus of Burgundy » is considered a royal way. It crosses in fact part of the Côte d’Or where the most prestigious vineyards are located. After visiting Dijon, you reach the ancient village of Marsannay and the canton of Gevrey-Chambertin and vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges where you have the castle (twelfth century) Clos de Vougeot, headquarters of the famous Brotherhood of the Tastevin (this is the tatar dish in which we taste wine cellar). Then this is the Côte de Beaune (city worth a stop, especially for its hospices), Pommard, Volnay and Meursault … the « route of the great wines » extends the Route des Grands Crus from Santenay. Until Saint-Gengoux-le-National, it makes you discover the Chalonnaise region through a charming village to another: vineyards, groves, Romanesque churches, castles, Canal du Centre …
